Brycck

Meet Bryce, a small streamer who goes by Brycck on Twitch. Brycck has over 600 followers on the platform where he plays a variety of games, while mainly focusing on survival at the time of this interview.  While he works full time selling insurance, and participates in his passion of dodgeball by coaching at MSU, he dedicates his time by streaming and playing video games. In this interview, Bryce shares his experiences as a variety streamer, his relationships with his viewers, and the challenges and rewards of streaming.

Bryce is a variety streamer who enjoys playing a range of games, but has a particular fondness for survival games. He says, "I was very into Apex Legends for about 3 years, and now we pretty much jump around from survival game to survival game and are testing out some new stuff." He enjoys experimenting with different genres and notes that the tone of his stream can vary depending on the game he is playing. For example, he says, "When I was playing Apex Legends heavily, it was a lot of me breaking down scenarios and getting pretty loud. But when I play Dead by Daylight it's more laid back and there's more conversation with people." Although this may be a challenge for small streamers by keeping the same consistent community, Bryce has learned to ‘speak the language’ of each game he is broadcasting. By having this broad horizon of genre experience in video games, Bryce has made lots of friends along the way.

One important person in Bryce's life is Brandon, a college roommate who supports Bryce's stream by watching and chatting when he can. Bryce says, "Brandon listens to my stream and we will talk about it afterwards." He also values the relationships he has built with his viewers and makes an effort to get to know them through chat and consistent engagement. Bryce says, "One of my favorite people to ever watch my stream is my dad. He was into the competition portion of Apex Legends and we'd always talk about map rotations and which comps to use. Obviously having a parent or sibling in chat, the people you don't know in chat go wild for it." Bryce continues by remembering times in his chat where his dad visited and other chatters got excited to talk to someone from Bryce’s personal life.

Bryce started streaming in college after being inspired by Call of Duty montages he watched on YouTube. He found it inspiring how people could post their gaming clips on the internet for others to enjoy. Streaming has become an addiction for him, and Bryce continues to want to learn and grow his platform more. He finds it rewarding to look back on memories from his streams. He has also learned a lot through the experience and has adapted his preparation techniques, such as using a whiteboard and camera to demonstrate visual concepts, and making sure to have something to drink to stay hydrated while live on stream. Bryce says, "I used to have a notebook lying around for clipping. I would write down the timestamps and go back and clip the stream afterwards, but now I've upgraded to a whiteboard and a camera that I can switch to that faces down at the board, which makes it easier to demonstrate what I'm explaining to my stream." Bryce still uses his notebook occasionally to go back clip his time stamps, but his whiteboard has proved to be quite useful. Although Brycck has upgraded through his years of streaming, he still sets goals for himself to achieve in the future.

Bryce's short term goal is to increase community interaction on his stream, and his long term goal is to see overall growth on his channel. He explains how he wishes to see the community involvement as active as it was when he once started Twitch. He plans to achieve this through rewards for hitting certain landmarks, such as a certain number of followers or subscribers. He had set up these goals in the past, and has more ideas for the future in hopes of his community wanting to help him grow too. One of his most memorable moments was getting his first logo and overlay, and from there he continued to set up new goals from there. One way to inspire yourself and discover new goals in mind is by looking to other creators you enjoy.

Bryce looks up to other streamers, such as his friend LyricalPhilosopher on YouTube. He says, "He has that fresh streamer mentality and I look up to how much he's been posting lately. It pushes me to try to put out as much content as possible." Bryce advises anyone on the fence about streaming to give it a shot and not to worry about not knowing everything right away. He believes that half of streaming is learning and encourages new streamers to just press the live button and go from there, without putting too much pressure on themselves or worrying about money or fame. In his words, "If you want to stream, go out and do it!... There will be people who stick through it with you. You can be missing out on opportunities to make friends from across the world."

Through his experiences as a small streamer,Bryce has learned the importance of consistent engagement with his community, the value of adapting his preparation techniques, and the reward of building relationships with his viewers. He has also discovered the challenges of maintaining a consistent streaming schedule, but remains determined to reach his goals of increasing community interaction and overall growth on his channel. Bryce's passion for streaming is evident in his advice to other aspiring streamers: to take the risk and just press the live button, and to do it for themselves, not for money or fame. Overall, Bryce's story serves as an inspiration for those looking to pursue their passion in the world of streaming. Bryce ends off his interviewing by reminding our readers “If you have any free time come check me out! If anyone needs someone to talk to or they’re going through something, I’m here to talk. Also, if you want to stream just go do it!”
