TyphlosionTycoon

If you're a Nintendo fan in search of a streamer who shares your love of all things Nintendo, look no further than TyphlosionTycoon, or Ty for short. Ty is a content creator on TikTok, YouTube, and most of all Twitch. TyphlosionTycoon at the time of this interview has approximately 3.9k followers on Twitch, where he streams mainly Pokemon games. Ty began streaming after a contract job ended and he wanted to do something more for himself personally. He found that most of his in-real-life friends didn't play Pokemon, so he turned to streaming as a way to connect with others who shared his passion for gaming. Ty even watched Harris Heller videos on how to get started and put a lot of effort into making his channel seem professional, including investing in channel graphics and working on his graphic design skills. In addition to Pokemon, Ty also streams other Nintendo titles such as Fire Emblem and Kirby. In the following interview, we will delve deeper into TyphlosionTycoon's experience as a small streamer.

Ty's love for Pokemon began when his childhood neighbors had Pokemon Gold and Silver, which sparked his initial interest in the games. This eventually led to his parents taking him and his siblings to get their own Game Boys for their birthday. According to Ty, "I wanted a GameBoy so my parents took my brother, sister and I to get them for our birthday. My brother and I got a Pikachu and Pichu special edition and my sister got a hot pink one." When asked about why they chose to get the Game Boy Color instead of waiting for the Game Boy Advance, which was set to be released in a few weeks, Ty explained, "The Game Boy Advance was coming out very very soon, like in a couple of weeks, but we didn't want to wait for it. Of course we were kids." As time grew on Ty grew more interested in the Pokemon franchise, watching the anime and collecting their cards. Ty had a mission to play as many Pokemon games as he could. Although Ty’s love grew for Pokemon and he met people who shared similar interests, he still wanted to branch out and find people who were just as passionate about the games as he was. In addition to the Game Boy Color, Ty also got a Nintendo DS in either 2004 or 2005. Despite not having the latest console, Ty stated, "We made do with what we had." Looking back on his decision to start with the Game Boy Color, Ty remarked, "I'm glad I started with the GameBoy Color because now I feel like an old school gamer." Having the experience of the older generation of games, this helped set up Ty for success when he later in life began to stream Nintendo games as a passion.

As he continued to delve deeper into the Pokemon franchise and discovering content creators online who share their interest, Ty has been inspired by a number of prominent streamers in the Nintendo community, including Shofu, Shadypenguinn, Adrive and PDWinall. After joining the small streamer community on Twitch, he discovered another group of inspiring streamers such as Jujube, MarkStockley, Saltqueen, and KwikPanik. These creators have influenced Ty's own style and approach to streaming, and he has looked up to them as he has developed his own channel. In addition to these streamers, Ty has also been fortunate to have a strong support system throughout his journey as a streamer. His brother, in particular, has been a constant source of support from day one. As Ty explained, "My brother has supported me since day one... He has his own ambitions. He plays guitar so he wants to make something of that... It's another outlet for him that he can go to and inspire people with... so we can relate to each other big time and support each other in our ambitions." Ty's brother has been a constant presence on his streams and has always been supportive of his content ambitions. In addition to his brother, Ty's parents have also expressed pride in his accomplishments as a streamer, saying that they are proud of him for building what he has. Ty's girlfriend has also been a key member of his support system, joining Discord and Twitch just to support his stream. As Ty noted, "My girlfriend has also been super supportive as well... She joined Discord and Twitch just for me, which obviously says a lot. Not just anybody does that unless they really care about you. I know geek culture isn't for everyone." Overall, Ty is grateful for the entire support system he has, and he is thankful for the people in his life who have embraced and supported his passions.

The key to success is continuously setting goals for yourself even after achieving them. Ty states that one of his biggest goals in the past was hitting affiliate, but now he has lined himself up for new challenges. His long term goal is to become a twitch and youtube partner, and he is working towards this by focusing on finding his niche and adding more variety to his streams. This month, a new Fire Emblem game is coming out, and Ty plans to beat the one he has been working on in order to add more variety to his streams. He hopes that this will help bring in more viewers and make new friends. In addition to streaming, Ty also wants to push more YouTube content, specifically car pack openings. One thing he has learned from his experience as a streamer is that he wants to upload videos manually instead of using third party editors in order to be more authentic and to show more of his personal life. By sharing more of his personal life with his audience, Ty hopes to help them get to know him better and create a deeper connection with his community.

Ty values the relationships he has with his community and makes an effort to get to know each of his viewers. One way he does this is by using Twitch's new feature that allows him to see when someone is a first-time chatter in his stream. This gives him the opportunity to ask them a warm-up question and make them feel welcome, such as asking about their favorite Pokemon, the last shiny Pokemon they caught, or anything else related to the current stream. Ty remembers what it feels like to be a new chatter in someone's stream and believes that being welcomed and getting to know someone can be a very rewarding experience.

There are lots of features that you can add on to your stream to help enhance the ability to grow your stream. Lots of streamers will use automated moderators called ‘bots’. These are commonly seen in chats as Stream Elements or Nightbot. Twitch has added new capabilities to their streams that can help streamers interact with their chats rather than having an automated bot do it. One way he does this is by using Twitch's new feature that allows him to see when someone is a first-time chatter in his stream. Ty has had many great moments during his time as a streamer, making it difficult for him to choose just one. One notable achievement was hitting affiliate status, which he described as a big moment that made him feel like "hey maybe I can do this." Hitting affiliate gave Ty credibility as a content creator and marked the point where everything began to take off for him. Another milestone was his first big raid, which was led by ShinyNinja, the first Twitch partner to ever raid him. This raid brought some of the most loyal members of his community to his stream. In addition to these accomplishments, Ty has also participated in charity streams to advocate for mental health, an issue that is important to him. Each of these charity streams has gotten better and better, and Ty has a few more lined up for this year. In general, Ty has found that meeting incredible people along the way has been a memorable moment of his journey as a streamer.

If you are considering trying out streaming, Ty advises new streamers to start with small expectations and to get to know people in the streaming community by interacting with them and making friends. He emphasizes the importance of being consistent with posting and letting people know when you'll be streaming, and advises new streamers to have a clear purpose and focus for their channel so that their audience knows what to expect. Ty also stresses the importance of networking, and advises new streamers to find what they're passionate about and stick with it, even when there are ups and downs. He encourages new streamers to find a balance that works for them and to remember to "find your flame, keep it ablaze," as there will always be challenges that try to bring you down, but it is up to you to keep pushing through until the end.
